I had previously been to the Paradisus and this resort is not at that level. Ocean Maya left a great impression on us and while there tons of options out there, we're certainly inclined to return to this resort on our next trip to Mexico. Service was great across the board and everyone was extremely friendly, all the way from the front desk to the grounds crew. While there may be some value in that at some of their more crowded resorts, we just didn't see the value at all in that at Ocean Maya. This comes with a minimally nicer bar package, (Absolut over Smirnoff, Johnny Red over J&B, etc) priority reservations, nice beach chairs and one exclusive restaurant. H10 really loves to push the "Privilege" experience, which I think is an extra $65USD per person per day. The gentleman working the sports bar was maybe the best hotel bartender I've ever come across. The restaurants were certainly above average and nobody was really pushing upcharge food/bev too hard, which I appreciated. However, there were ALWAYS ample prime beach chairs available. Pool chairs filled up early, but not too early. Luckily for us, we enjoy watching people have fun and lots of fun was had. However, if you're looking for a completely peaceful and serene pool/beach experience this place isn't for you. We definitely loved the lagoon tour and Adela was a wonderful guide. I found the water to be wonderfully swimmable, which I was not totally expecting. The beach was relatively free of seaweed as the team at the hotel did a great job of raking it up. Upon check-in, the room was exactly as expected and incredibly clean. We did get pulled aside by the timeshare/vacation club guy who wanted us to check out H10's neighboring hotel, which we agreed to do the next day because why not, I'm always interested in checking out other properties. They let us know the room wouldn't be ready until 3pm, but we were free to enjoy the resort in the meantime, which was very nice. The transport from the airport was great and due to timing issues ended up being a private transport. However, we know what we were looking for and this place didn't disappoint. Let me start off by saying this was our 2nd ever all-inclusive experience, so we're far from industry experts. My one recommendation to the hotel would be to set up a dance bar/club with DJ in the resort so that people can dance and mingle into the wee hours of the morning. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and would go back. Also, there was a lot of seaweed/algae on the beach but apparently that is common to all beaches in the summer months. So if you want to go into town to party, you will have to get a taxi which costs about $30USD each way. The only down side is that it is 10km away from Playa del Carmen. There are 4 restaurants on site - Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and buffet - they are all great and all are included in your package, There was a show every night, including a Latin dance performance and a Michael Jackson show that was surprisingly very good. There were also a lot of free activities on-site such as beach volleyball, cooking classes, dancing lessons, and pool parties. Octavio, George and Jesus served me some delicious pina coladas. Vincente made great coffee for me every morning. Fernanda recommended some great excursions. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s a shame to go all the way to Mexico to be confined to your hotel unless you want to break the bank! You could have been anywhere. If I could go back, I’d have booked somewhere else, with more things to see. It’s a lot of money to pay for some robes in your room!! Not worth the money - the privilege restaurant and areas lacked any atmosphere! We didn’t receive a butler as stated either. Sea / beach - stinks and couldn’t use because of seaweed. He was hobbling for the rest of his stay. The pool drains are very unsafe - I saw a man fall down one and cut his ankle. They are starting to do this to some rooms. The rooms are dated and in need of a revamp. This isn’t a hotel if you want to explore the local area easily. Extremely dangerous as a second option! If you want to travel anywhere, you’ll have to cook an overpriced excursion. You can’t walk anywhere and the prices in the shop on site are unbelievably extortionate! We had to walk across the highway to go to a shop which didn’t rob the bank. I don’t drink but it looked like everyone was enjoying the alcohol selection and pool bar.Ĭons- location. The choice of restaurants is good for a week’s stay - doesn’t get too repetitive.Īdults only is a plus. There’s lots going on throughout the day including cooking classes, craft making etc First time in Mexico and didn’t know what to expect.
